    I am not going to solve it, obviously, but I will point out that the story is almost certainly a hoax. If it is genuine, the clear-text of the one solved cypher-text contains the early known use of the word stampede, by 25 years.

    @Malvolio; I agree that it sounds like a hoax from all evidence mentioned. I wonder if it's a partial hoax (i.e. the back-story's false, but the encrypted text is genuine; only giving some message other than anything treasure related). Per the article's sign off devote only such time as can be spared from your legitimate business to the task, and if you can spare no time, let the matter alone. Should you disregard my advice, do not hold me responsible that the poverty you have courted is more easily found than accomplishment of your wishes. it does sound like a trick against mindless greed

    The second puzzle corresponded to the Declaration of Independence. Maybe the other two correspond to other important papers, like the Constitution of the United States?

    I am not going to solve it, obviously, but I will point out that the story is almost certainly a hoax. If it is genuine, the clear-text of the one solved cypher-text contains the early known use of the word stampede, by 25 years.

I wonder if it's a partial hoax (i.e. the back-story's false, but the encrypted text is genuine; only giving some message other than anything treasure related). Per the article's sign off devote only such time as can be spared from your legitimate business to the task, and if you can spare no time, let the matter alone.     I am not going to solve it, obviously, but I will point out that the story is almost certainly a hoax. If it is genuine, the clear-text of the one solved cypher-text contains the early known use of the word stampede, by 25 years.
