Floyd Cramer (27. oktober 1933–31. desember 1997) var ein amerikansk pianist som var ein av skaparane av «Nashville sound» innan country. Han var kjend for «slip note»-stilen sin, der ein falsk tone glir over på den korrekte tonen. Stilen vart typisk for den poporienterte Nashville-stilen innan country seint i 1950- og tidleg i 1960-åra.

Biografi |
Etter ein barndom i Arkansas, flytta Cramer attende til Louisiana, der han var fødd i 1951. Han byrja å dukke opp på radioprogrammet The Louisiana Hayride, der han spelte i lag med artistar som Jim Reeves, Faron Young, Webb Pierce og, på debuten hans, Elvis Presley.[1]
Cramer spelte inn nokre få solosinglar i 1953, men det viktigaste arbeidet hans tidleg i 1950-åra var som studiomusikar, der han først møtte Chet Atkins, som oppfordra han til å flytte til Nashville, noko han gjorde i 1955. Han vart då med Atkins som huspianist ved RCA Records og byrja å utvikle det som etter kvart vart rekna som Nashville sound, ein stil som tok bort element knytte til tradisjonell country og honky tonk til fordel for ein meir polert stil, som høvde for pop-publikumet.[1] Med Atkins som produsent, byrja Cramer å perfeksjonere den unike stilen sin, med ein metode som ikkje er ulik gitar-plukking, der han slår ein tangent og så glir fingeren over på den neste, noko som skapar ein blå, einsam stil.[1] Under Atkins, spelte Cramer på hundrevis av innspelingar, inkludert mange for Presley, som «Heartbreak Hotel».
I 1957 gav Cramer ut den første soloplata si, That Honky-Tonk Piano, og året etter fekk han ein liten pophit med «Flip, Flop and Bop». Sidan solokarrieren hans kom i andre rekkje etter studioarbeidet hans, spelte han berre sporadisk musikk inn på eiga hand, men i 1960 fekk han ein stor country- og pophit med den sjølvskrivne instrumentalen «Last Date». Oppfølgjaren, ein cover av Bob Wills sin «San Antonio Rose», nådde topp 10 på begge listene. Han gav òg album mellom 1960 og 1962, med Hello Blues, etterfølgd av Last Date og I Remember Hank Williams.
Frå 1965 til 1974 gav Cramer kvart år ut eit Class Of...-album, ei samling av dei største hittane det året, spelt i hans eigen stil. I 1971 slo han seg saman med Atkins og saksofonisten Boots Randolph for albumet Chet, Floyd and Boots. I 1977 utforska Cramer moderne teknologi, og på albumet Keyboard Kick Band, spelte han fleire instrument, mellom anna ein synthesizer. I 1980 fekk han den siste store hitten sin, ein innspeling av kjenningsmelodien til fjernsynsserien Dallas. Det skjedde lite på 80-talet, men i 1988 gav Cramer ut tre album, Country Gold, Just Me and My Piano! og Special Songs of Love.[1]
