Can all sudoku puzzles be solved “logically”? (I define what this means)

The top answer in the question below stated that it depends on how you define "logically":

Are there published Sudoku puzzles that require guessing?

It seems to me that what people refer to as "logically" refers to solving sudoku puzzles without assuming things for a contradiction, and only solving the puzzle directly.

e.g. assume every combination possible for a contradiction until you reach the solution

e.g. assume this square is a 3 for a contradiction

I'm not familiar with the expert-level sudoku solving techniques. Would they always be able to find the solution to a puzzle directly?
