Thomas Wright «Tom» Scott (fødd 19. mai 1948) er ein USA-amerikansk saksofonist, komponist, arrangør, dirigent og bandleiar i vestkyssjazz/jazzfusion-ensemblet L.A. Express.

Biografi |

Scott var fødd i Los Angeles i California. Han er son av film- og fjernsynskomponisten Nathan Scott, som lagde musikk til meir enn 850 fjernsynsprogram og meir enn 100 filmar, mellom anna for Dragnet og Lassie.^[1]

Dei mest kjende verka til Tom Scott er kjenningsmelodiar til fjernsynsseriar i 1970- og 1980-åra — Starsky and Hutch (eit spor kalla «Gotcha!») og The Streets of San Francisco, og sopransaksofonsoloen på hitsingelen «Listen to What the Man Said» for Wings i 1975. I 1982 samarbeidde Scott med Johnny Mathis om å skrive og spele inn to versjonar – ein med tekst og ein utan – av «Without Us», kjenningsmelodien til situasjonskomedien Family Ties i 1980-åra. Versjonen hans av «Today» (ein Jefferson Airplane-song) vart sampla av Pete Rock & CL Smooth i 1992 på hiten «They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)».^[2]

Den profesjonelle karrieren til Scott byrja som tenåring, som leiar av jazzensemblet Neoteric Trio, og så som særs etterspurd studiomusikar. Han har lange mange soloinnspelingar, som han har fått 13 Grammy-nominasjonar for. Han vann tre av dei. Han har òg laga mykj musikk for fjernsyn og film, og spelt for artistar som George Harrison, the Beach Boys, the Grateful Dead, Paul McCartney, Steppenwolf, Rod Stewart («Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?»), Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Joni Mitchell, Blondie («Rapture»), Eddie Money, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Quincy Jones, Carole King, Olivia Newton-John og Frank Sinatra.

Scott var eit av medlemmane i the Blues Brothers Band, men er ikkje med i dei to filmane The Blues Brothers og Blues Brothers 2000. Scott avr leiar for husbandet i to kortvarige prateprogram CBS sitt The Pat Sajak Show og Fox sitt The Chevy Chase Show.
